February Newsletter
As we celebrate Black History Month, we reflect on the profound impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in shaping Black excellence. These institutions have nurtured trailblazers like Thurgood Marshall, Katherine Johnson, and Vice President Kamala Harris, fostering leadership and academic excellence for generations.
ProjectHBCU is proud to continue this legacy by empowering students through education and mentorship. We are currently seeking guest speakers—HBCU alumni, current students, activists, and leaders—to share their experiences at our Virtual Youth Leadership Summit. Nominations open February 15, 2025—let’s work together to inspire the next generation!
Additionally, we invite you to support our mission through our Give Butter Campaign as we aim to raise $3,000 for college admissions programming. You can also contribute by participating in our Java Joes Fundraiser (February 10-28, 2025)—every sip of coffee fuels a student’s future!
Join us in celebrating Black history, HBCU excellence, and the power of education. Your support makes a difference!
January Newsletter
As we begin a new year, ProjectHBCU remains committed to breaking educational barriers and empowering students for success. This month, we highlight a critical issue: the rising cost of college and its impact on Black students. With tuition fees climbing 31% over the past decade (NCES, 2022), financial challenges continue to disproportionately affect Black students, leading to increased student loan debt.
HBCUs remain a beacon of hope, providing affordable, high-quality education and scholarship opportunities, yet they are still underfunded compared to PWIs. We must continue to advocate for student loan reform, increase scholarship opportunities, and support HBCUs to ensure Black students thrive.
Additionally, we’re excited to announce that applications for the 2025-2026 College Admissions Preparation Program (CAPP) will open May 8, 2025! This year’s CAPP participants have already been accepted into over 60 colleges, a testament to the power of our mentorship and support programs.
Upcoming Fundraisers include our Give Butter Campaign, aiming to raise $3,000 for college admissions programming, and the Java Joes Fundraiser (Feb 10-28), where your love of coffee can help fuel student success!
Let’s continue working together to make education accessible, equitable, and empowering for all.
